Global Warming
This theory was originally promoted by Al Gore with a penchant for the past several years with his book and movie, “An Inconvenient Truth”. Until recently, all industry was vehemently opposed to the issue of climate change. Showing us disappearing ice mass in the Antarctic and glaciers of the world with the warning that when they have all melted sea levels will rise up to 20 feet above what it is today.
The EPA defines this environmental issue as:
“… an average increase in the temperature of the atmosphere near the Earth’s surface and in the troposphere, which can contribute to changes in global climate patterns. Global warming can occur from a variety of causes, natural and human induced. In common usage, “global warming” often refers to the warming that can occur as a result of increased emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities.”
US government agencies like the EPA and also NASA publicly attribute a huge share of this issue to global activities since the beginning of the Industrial Age some 200 years ago. The use of fossil fuels and massive deforestation for paper pulp, manufacturing and urbanization or farming is said to have caused high levels of greenhouse gases that are now trapped inside the Earth’s biosphere and preventing heat from escaping from the bubble of protection that makes our planet habitable.
The EPA admits that greenhouse gases are necessary to all living things on Earth, but that rising concentrations are the cause of global temperature average rising. NOAA and NASA state that the average temperature on Earth has risen 1.2-1.4 ºF over the last century. The organizations report that since 1850, the 8 warmest years have all happened since 1998 and that 2005 was the hottest year of all on record. Other portions of these environmental issues are termed as climate change and also blamed on global warming. Climate change encompasses alteration in rainfall, and snow or ice cover, as well as world ocean levels.
Recently legislation has been on the table to curb the use of fossil fuels and drastically reduce CO2 levels which are said to be at an alarming high level. These organizations are warning us that if the greenhouse gas production rate is not drastically reduced immediately, the temperature on Earth could rise another 3.2-7.2ºF by the end of the 21st century. NASA has also stated that the change in the very shape of the Earth is also due to global warming or climate change.
The announcement by the EPA that scientists have reached a consensus is now being challenged by concerned scientists around the world. CO2 gases are imperative to healthy plant growth, human life and all other inhabiting our world. Reducing the already low natural CO2 gases will devastate our ability to produce ample food, not to mention the financial climate for millions of Americans. There are harmful CO2 gases and those that make life here possible, current legislation reduces all natural gases not just those said to be the major proponent in the warming trend in the last few years.
The other issue with global warming and climate change is that it is not just happening on our planet, but on all other planets in the solar system. Some planets have experienced a rising temperature and others are cooling. There are theories that the climate change on a solar system basis as opposed to a global problem are being caused from outside influences for the majority of the issue.
Yes, humanity does need to find a more sustainable method of working, living and playing. Changing the way we use or abuse the natural resources is not the whole issue; there are most matters that appear to be completely ignored by those driving the climate change of Earth scenario.
